A cracked back is more than cosmetic. It lets dust and moisture into the phone and it cuts fingers. On modern glass-backed phones it is a proper repair job.
On recent iPhones the rear glass is laser-welded to the frame, so removing it means cutting the old panel out in pieces without damaging the wireless charging coil underneath. It is slower, more delicate work than a screen.
